Pinioning is the removal of the “pinion” joint of a bird’s wing to prevent flight. Pinioning is performed shortly after hatch and renders a bird permanently flightless. All of Swans Farm Hatchery swans are pinioned and it is optional on some wild duck breeds and domestic mallards.
